Sonae MC teamed up with Sensei to create the world’s largest autonomous supermarket in Leiria, setting new standards in food retail. In a 1,200 m² store with over 11,000 items, the challenge was to ensure a seamless, queue-free shopping experience despite high complexity and large customer volumes.
The solution combines AI, computer vision, and sensor fusion to capture purchases in real time – even at demanding fresh food counters such as the bakery, fish, and meat counters. Customers can shop without scanning or queuing and receive digital receipts in real time.

The store is seeing higher customer satisfaction with sales and traffic comparable to other similar stores, while MC (Sonae Group) is advancing computer vision developments impacting store efficiency, optimizing staff scheduling, and better inventory management.
