Checkout & Smart Store
Coop Czech
COOP Czech is responding to changing customer needs, rising personnel costs, and economic challenges in rural areas with a hybrid and automated store concept.
COOP now offers round-the-clock shopping in more than 100 stores, combining staffed hours with unstaffed self-service phases. Technically, the model is based on digital access control with identity verification, self-checkout systems, and comprehensive video surveillance with central monitoring.
The approach improves accessibility for customers, ensures the profitability of low-traffic locations, and reduces staffing requirements outside of core hours. Unmanned operation already accounts for 10–20% of sales in hybrid stores; during peak periods such as Christmas, the share was up to 30% in individual markets. Overall, hybrid stores are recording sales growth of around 10–15%. The automated sales concept has been also implemented in unique locations such as hospitals, airports or petrol stations.
